Restore Restricted Screen Names

Discovered By: Various
Date: 1999
Patched: N/A

This exploit made it possible to restore Restricted Names deleted from an AOL account. Normally when a restricted name is deleted from an account it will not show up in the Restore Screen Name listbox. However, there is a flaw which allows you to do it.

This was done with Atomic Debugger and Visual Publisher Designer. First sign onto the master screen name of an AOL account with a deleted restricted name. Set-up atomic debugger to halt on modals using the mat_bool_modal atom. Go to kw: NAMES and select Restore Screen name. Atomdebug should make the modal window a normal window form that can be edited using Visual Publisher Designer. Use VPD to edit the names in the listbox to match the (case sensitive) restricted name that you want to restore.
